Sex Reassignment Surgery or SRS

Some people feel the difference between their biological gender and their sexual identity. Biological gender means the gender with which a person is born and sexual identity is the feeling that the person has. This difference can be associated with sadness, depression, and anxiety.

Although the root cause of sexual orientation issues is not fully understood, researches show that it can be caused by changes in gender development due to hormonal changes. All adults who suffer from sexual orientation issues can have permanent gender reassignment and have their desired gender.

Gender reassignment surgery will allow for changes in physical appearance and other sexual characteristics. This surgical procedure includes genital reconstruction surgery, chest reconstruction, breast augmentation and hysterectomy. People with sexual identity issues can achieve the desired sex by undergoing gender reassignment surgery. Sex reassignment surgery is a procedure to transition individuals gender dysphoria to their desired gender. These people always believe that they were born with the wrong sex and may even have the tendencies and physical characteristics of the opposite sex.

In some cases, the disorder will manifest in childhood and in others, in adulthood. People who suffer from such a problem in their lives and want to have surgery and gender reassignment should be consulted to determine if they are ready for surgery or not. These patients first receive hormone therapy. Hormones suppress secondary sexual characteristics in the individual and the appearance of desirable sexual characteristics. To perform this surgery, the surgeon asks the patient to live with the sex of her choice for at least a year. For example, men are asked to wear women’s clothes and have a woman’s lifestyle. Many men also change their name. In the case of women, the opposite should be done.

The difference between transsexuals and homosexuals

Most of the time, people confuse these two. In fact, transgender people are people who have problems with their sexual identity, which means that the person is male but considers himself a woman, and vice versa. Normally, these people physically can have sex with the opposite sex but they are not willing to.

But homosexuals do not have a problem with their gender, so they accept their appearance as a man and will not have a problem with it. But this is not the case with the opposite sex, and the tendency of these people is towards the opposite sex. Therefore, transsexuals and homosexuals are completely different from each other and we need to differentiate them so that you do not have any problems.

Sexual orientation and gender reassignment surgery

In this section, we are going to deal with terms related to sexuality. The word straight actually refers to someone who has sexual orientations towards the opposite side. The majority of people are straight, which means that a man tends to a woman and a woman to a man.

Another term is heterosexual or heteroromantic. Heterosexual is about sex, and heteroromantic is about romance. In contrast, there is a word that means homosexual, which means someone who has tendency to his or her sex, and these people do not have a sexual desire for the opposite sex and agree with the sex. Man wants to have a relationship with a man and woman with a woman. Men who want to have sex with a man are called “gay”. Women who are attracted to women are called “lesbians,” both of whom are homosexuals.

What steps do transgender people have to go through to be able to have surgery?

Normally, transgender people have to go through a series of steps to be able to undergo gender reassignment surgery, which include:

Awareness of inner feelings and necessary actions at this time

Such people, in the period of the time before puberty until puberty, fully realize that their inner feelings are different from their outward gender. Therefore, despite having such feelings, they should consult a psychiatrist or psychologist and consult in this regard.

After consulting a psychiatrist, if it is confirmed that the person is trans, it is recommended that he or she enter the society for six months to two years to adjust to the sexual appearance he or she desires. For example, if the gender of the person is a girl, he should try to enter the society with girl clothes but short hair.

Getting official permission for gender reassignment surgery

After the period of time that the person has adjust to the sexual appearance he or she desires

In the society, the psychiatrist determines that the person is ready for gender reassignment surgery, the person should be referred to the medical commission to confirm that he or she is a transgender. The person is then referred to court for formal authorization and legal procedures for gender reassignment surgery.

How is sex reassignment surgery performed?

Before surgery, the patient needs to be treated with hormones for a year.

In male-to-female surgery, the procedure involves removing the penis, reshaping the surrounding tissues, and using skin grafts to repair the vagina. Then other procedures, such as a breast prosthesis, hip augmentation, or facial modifications, will be performed. Initially, the patient is anesthetized, the penis is removed, and the labia are formed. The urethra will also be shorter. Next, a skin graft will be used to rebuild the vaginal area. Sometimes a graft will be needed to rebuild the vaginal opening.

Female to male surgery consists of two stages. First, a hysterectomy and removal of the uterus are performed. Then a phalloplasty is performed, which involves tissue grafts from the arm and abdomen and reconstruction of the penis. The labia majora will attach to the scrotum and the urethra to the penis. Hormones need to be taken to increase the size of the clitoris and regenerate the penis.
